This is what I know (from personal experience) — you and your business deserve more than a basic templated website and a monthly bill from a faceless tech giant.
When we start out in business there are certain things we know we really need and one of those things is a website. Maybe you’ve flirted with these drag and drop, pre-done website builders. They promise “easy,” “done-for-you” sites, and yes of course, they’re quick wins—but let’s not mistake convenience for control.

When you rely on a third party or drag-and-drop builder, you’re putting your digital identity—your brand—into someone else’s hands. And often, you’re paying more than you need to for less than you deserve.
So, let’s flip this into something that is going to be way better for you and your business (and your bank balance!)
I’m going to say something now that might put the fear of God into you, a statement that might make you run for the hills, but just think about it for a second:
Why not learn to do it yourself?
I bet if I had a camera focused on you right now, you would be shaking your head, saying “no way I’m not techy , not my thing” “what do I know about websites, that’s for someone else”
How do I know that (I might be being presumptuous, apologies if I am) but I know because I was that person! I thought, “nope, not me, no way, not gonna happen!”
Yet, here I am, two websites in, built with my own fair hands (and a lotta help from the best website mentor I know – I’ll spill those beans in a minute!)
Here’s the thing, when you learn to do it yourself:
- You gain total creative control
If you want to change a headline at midnight, or add a new product page before breakfast, update your brand colours next week, you can! It’s simple but only if you’ve built it yourself. No waiting. No asking. No extra fees. Your site evolves as you do.
- You save a lot more than money
Yes, it’s cheaper! No ongoing developer fees, no surprise invoices. But it’s not just the cash—it’s your time, your peace of mind, and your ability to have complete control over YOUR website. That’s worth a lot more than money in the long run.
- You become more digitally confident
This isn’t just about the website—it’s about knowing you can figure stuff out. That your digital confidence grows. You go from “I think I can” to “Of course I can” faster than you’d believe.
- You build a site that actually feels like you
Let’s be honest—template websites all start to look the same after a while. When you create your own, it reflects your energy, your values, your vision. And that’s what customers connect with.
Now let’s talk about the flip side:
What happens when you use a done-for-you or “easy builder” option?
You’re locked in. Want to move platforms later? Good luck. Your content, SEO settings, and structure often don’t export cleanly.
You don’t really own it. These sites run on someone else’s tech. If they go down, update something, or change their pricing (spoiler alert: they will), you’re stuck.
